Email Client Settings: IMAP/SMTP for Outlook, Gmail & Apple Mail
Once your cPanel mailbox is created, you can connect it to any email app on your desktop or phone. Use the settings below — they apply to every Hoststack shared and reseller hosting account using the standard mail server.
Server settings
- Incoming server (IMAP): mail.yourdomain.com, port 993 (SSL/TLS)
- Incoming server (POP3, if preferred): mail.yourdomain.com, port 995 (SSL/TLS)
- Outgoing server (SMTP): mail.yourdomain.com, port 465 (SSL/TLS) or 587 (STARTTLS)
- Username: your full email address (e.g. [email protected]) — not just the part before the @
- Authentication: required for both incoming and outgoing (SMTP-AUTH)
Prefer IMAP over POP3 unless you specifically need offline-only mail — IMAP keeps your inbox in sync across your phone, laptop and webmail, while POP3 downloads and often removes messages from the server.
Outlook, Gmail and Apple Mail
- Outlook (desktop/mobile): File → Add Account → choose "Advanced options" → "Let me set up my account manually" → select IMAP and enter the settings above
- Gmail app (fetch as another account): Settings → Add account → Other → enter the IMAP/SMTP details exactly as above
- Apple Mail (iOS/macOS): Settings → Mail → Accounts → Add Account → Other → Add Mail Account, then fill in the same server settings
Troubleshooting connection errors
- "Cannot connect to server" — confirm your domain's MX records point to Hoststack, or try the server hostname mail.hoststack.pro as a fallback
- "Certificate name mismatch" — this happens if you use mail.yourdomain.com before SSL has issued for that hostname; use the server hostname instead until it resolves
- Some ISPs block outbound port 25 and 465 on home networks — switch to port 587 if outgoing mail fails
Need your exact mail server hostname?
It's listed in cPanel under Email Accounts → Connect Devices. We're happy to walk you through setup too.
